Orgalutran ... and a bit of frustration

Last night D gave me the first of at least three Orgalutran injections. We decided that the best place to inject was my thigh so I sat on the kitchen bench, which is a cultural no-no here in Aotearoa but it was the perfect height and had good lighting (I consoled myself with the fact that it's not an area of the bench normally used for food preparation). We used one of the pre-filled small syringes that we have been given. It didn't hurt at all, though afterwards the site ached quite strangely and there was also a funny sensation around the top of my knee, so maybe we were a bit close to a nerve! But there was no sign of it this morning. We will have to do two more, tonight and tomorrow night, and then the scan on Monday morning will dictate what happens after that.

This afternoon I got a call from Nurse R on my cellphone. She wanted to change the time of the scan on Monday from 8.20am to 9.00am. I was surprised because the clinic has never called me on my cellphone before and the screen said "private number" so I almost didn't answer it. I'm one of these annoying people who hardly ever uses my cellphone and it was just lucky that it was out being charged and not buried away in my handbag. If I hadn't answered and she'd left a message, I might not have noticed it for days. So I have requested that they call me on my home landline in future, just to make sure that I don't miss anything important. They can always call my cellphone if they don't get an answer at home.

It can be easy to get annoyed and frustrated by little things like this when undertaking something as important and emotional as an IVF cycle. I'm sure this wouldn't have bothered me if it had been, say, the mechanic or the video store. But when I want so badly for everything to go perfectly, little hiccups like these can take on a greater importance than perhaps they should. I just hope they don't decide to start sending me test results by text! Perhaps that's something to check while we're at the clinic on Monday.

  1. Just when you think that they have the ways to contact you by phone sorted... You would think that their system would allow for a "preferred contact method" field... :-/

I've had that soreness and tingling with a couple of blood tests, and the phlebotomist said that it was nerve related... they were very apologetic, as it's pretty unusual.

I'll be thinking of you both tomorrow...

    Take care,
    CG

    1. Thank you, friend. It helps! I got a text this afternoon with my blood test results so I've called them and asked that this not happen in future because I really wouldn't want to get a pregnancy test result by text! It should be sorted out now. Onward and upward!
