A morning at the hospital

This morning I was feeling much better. I had very little discomfort and the bloating had gone right down. I went off to the women's hospital bright and early for my ultrasound scan. The radiologist started by looking at my abdomen from the outside, then she did an internal pelvic ultrasound and finally she checked for any fluid around my lungs from the back. It took a long time but I was glad she was so thorough! We could see lots of follicles on my ovaries but the radiologist didn't tell me much about them. Assessing the scan results is up to the doctor.

Then I was told to go to the second floor, the same place we were yesterday, to see the doctor. That got me a bit worried because I wasn't sure if they'd try to admit me or keep me there for a long time. I was met there by a nurse who took my vital signs (a bit of extra weight since yesterday, but all other measurements were fine) and told me that the doctor would be with me once the scan results came through. I was left alone in the same consulting room with nothing to do. Thank goodness I had a couple of mindless games on my cellphone! About half an hour later the nurse came back and told me that the results weren't back yet. Then she just looked at me as if she expected me to say or do something. Eventually I asked if I could go, since I had already explained that I had to be at the clinic for the embryo transfer within a couple of hours. She went back outside and then a young doctor came in. She examined my tummy and said that, yes, I could go, and that the scan results would be sent to the clinic.

I was very pleased to be out of there! Hospital doctors seem to have quite a different attitude to GPs and private specialists. They seem to think that they're in charge and that they don't have to communicate properly or give you choices. So I was very pleasantly surprised when this doctor let me go before seeing the scan results.

D has had to be in another city today for an unavoidable work commitment, so he is very disappointed that he won't be there for the transfer, but I am keeping in touch with him by cellphone. I have come home for a quick lunch before heading back to the clinic. I am hoping that the results will mean that the transfer can go ahead as planned.
